Lack of motivation (please help)

It's been over 2 years since I did any bit of programming. Last time I was into it was during college in ITT Tech. Even though the teacher laxed on the students, the book contained so many errors, and I only learned simple form stuff in VB.NET, I enjoyed it more then any other class I had.

I have wanted to get back into programming and was going to start with C#. I got the software ready to go, the books scattered about ready to be opened, and I sit down and...... Goof around on something else.

So my question is. What would you do to motivate yourself to just sit down, start reading and start doing? And not only just doing it but sticking to it?

1) move out of Mom & Dad's house
2) Get an apartment of your own
3) Go hungry a few times
4) Study so that you get a good job and pay for your apartment and stop starving.

Re: Lack of motivation (please help)

ITT graduate here, and I second that. I had the same problem when I graduated, although I didn't live with Mom and Dad. I was already married and in my own house with a decent job. Decent jobs don't pay the bills very well. I'm now pretty well motivated to make something of that $30k peice of paper ITT sold me. ITT made an exceptional piece of paper just for me, as my $30k piece of paper cost me $50k, so I'm even more motivated to put it to use.

And, I had the same experience with ITT that you did. Must be corporate policy.

I've reached 1 - 3, and half way step 4, but studied in a direction I never should have.(Economics). Damn, 2 years wasted, but I will be taking up a computer science course related to programming soon, a bit of a dud if you are paying for your own studies, but that makes sure that you don't waste your own money at least.

My advise whether you want it or not:
1) stop getting married. You're now divorced ? So stay that way.
2) stop making babies -- get a vasectomy.
3) pay your child support on time
4) get a second job so that you can keep your electricity.
