World Youth Day

In Sydney at the moment (it's almost finished - but still happening) we have something happening called World Youth Day. It is a day arranged by the Catholic Church to promote religion. We have thousands of pilgrims and they are singing and dancing everywere. The media has been saying it is huge and everyone in the world knows about it.
I'm just curious ... has anyone in other countries heard of it?

Nope, never, although in South Africa we celebrate Youth Day on , I think, June 16th, as that marked the end of our 'apartheid' era.

Re: World Youth Day

I knew that was going to be the response. So far I have ran into American pilgrims, Italian, a Canadian, mostly Australian though. When it was first announced some people were saying it would be more successful than the Olympics back in 2000 ... I think that was an over statement.

Re: World Youth Day

That's the one where the pope text messages all the teens on their cellphones, right?

I've heard of it, but as I don't much care for religion in general, much less organized religion, I've been more or less ignoring it.
