I realize that language preferences are quite personal, but I for one loathe Java. The designers stripped too much away in the interests of keeping it simple, but this often backfires, and means you, the programmer, need to write overcomplicated and convoluted solutions to problems. They're starting to improve things- the addition of generics was a big step, as one example- but I find C# to just be much more expressive. Properties, indexers, and function overloading are three things that can lead to vastly more readable code, and the .NET Framework has some very rich classes that make developing many solutions a total breeze.
