Hello!

I go by the name iEngage (obviously).

I got interested in programming because of mIRC. mIRC scripting was the coolest thing I had ever seen. I could make mIRC do anything i wanted (almost). So naturally I progressed on to other things. I'm not very good at any of the languages I have looked at, because while i love learning them, i never keep up with them because I don't ever know what to write.

I figured that since I enjoy learning programming languages and reading about them this would be a good place to be. I may even be able to help with some of the easier questions posted hehe.

well right now i'm lookin at C#.

In the past I looked at:
C++ (very briefly)
Python
VB 6 (of which i have forgotten everything because of not using it ever)
AutoIt (i know its not a real programming language but hey)
Lua (for World of Warcraft addons specifically)
Java (again, briefly)
and even a little TI-BASIC (for the TI graphing calculators)

as you can see i'm not an expert in any one language. The only thing i'm pretty confident with is programming knowledge in general. like control statements and knowing about encapsulation and namespaces and classes and all that good stuff.

Personally i recommend you carry on with Python and Java. Python as it will build on your general knowledge even more and is a nice language to know due to the ease things can be acheived. Java because its a very popular language now and is being used increasingly in industry.

sounds like good advice.

I'm gonna stick with C# for now because I'm liking it a lot compared to the other languages i have messed with, and also because down the road I want to be able to work with the XNA and maybe write my own xbox live arcade game.

I learn new things in Python every once in a while because I use python instead of shell scripts, so that I only have to know one language to write scripts on Windows or on Linux (I have 2 computers).

As for Java: I'll probably work with Java some more on down the road. I don't really know why, but I just didn't like it very much when I was dabbling with it. I think it is because I didn't understand classes and encapsulation and all that good stuff and the official Java tutorial confused the heck out of me. I was pretty young at the time.

Thats true alot of people who use C# seem to really enjoy it and say it is a very good language, i've never really looked at it myself, perhaps in the near future i will really depends on what time i can get free from college work.

When i was younger when i first started programming i also had trouble understanding Classes and encapsulation, but now it seems so much easier to understand although im still only 16. The extra few years makes a big difference.

If you like C# do NOT drop it, pretty much if you like any language never drop it, those you like you will do best in. There are some cases which you may find people will say forget it to, most likely VB6. They will just say move on to VB.NET, which any sane person would.
