Re: Life outside Earth?
You also have a hard time looking at when threads died. Please stop the thread necromancy? Pretty please?

Re: Life outside Earth?
I agree that he does do it too much, but I don't think that a month is thread necromancy.

Re: Life outside Earth?
If the new post is on topic and makes a meaningful contribution, it doesn't matter how old the original thread it. Bumping old threads with meaningful posts is not against PFO rules.

Re: Life outside Earth?
My belief is that there is other life out there, intelligent life that is.
My own research on this matter states that due to the vast size of the universe, and how much matter fills this void the chances are that there is 'intelligent' life out there. How intelligent? To have an indication of this we must be able to locate ourselves in our universe, harder than it sounds since we don't even know how big it is. we could get a rough idea on the head start that other life has had on us from the size of the universe, and where we are. Iff the big bang theory is correct then all matter at the beginning of time exploded outwards, life on the outer reaches of the universe could possibly be far superior to us given they are further from the centre than us. The above could only be used to loosely represent the smartness on a Distance (from big bang epicentre) vs Smartness (intelligence) table due to lots of other unknown issues life can face (mass extinction). Every few ten million years here on earth we go through a reported mass extinction but the wikipedia article suggests that mass extinction is on the decline: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_ex...sing_frequency It's not hard to imagine an intelligent life form getting on the verge of mastering intergalactic travel but being largely wiped out and all civilization having to start from single cell organisms or from some other organisms. It is entirely possible that aliens could look just like us, and it is also possible that they could look like what we expect, if evolution on earth is anything to go by another intelligent species could look very strange to us (half life anyone?) the universe is a fascinating place, there is so much to be discovered. I just hope in the event that other life manages to find us they are nothing like humans, as if we ran into another life, lesser than us we would be like to either enslave the population and pillage their planet or just take things of our "political interest" from them (there might be some undiscovered elements even!) I could go much deeper but i'll stop now. |
