Speaking of clusters and your system engineering background, have you ever had an interests in beowulf clusters?
Hi Infinite Recursion,

I have worked in environments which had beowulf clusters, but no I never managed or configured these clusters. I mainly consulted as a Windows Systems Engineer. Any place I've worked which had a Windows and Linux mix, there was always a senior Linux admin who did the Linux task while I focused on the Windows environment and did the Windows task. With that said, I did do cross-platform support, where I would do installs, configurations, and management of Linux machines as well as Windows machines, but I never was a senior or deemed Linux admin, I was primarily a Windows admin with a splash of Linux

In any event, I couldn't see why I wouldn't be able to configure a beowulf cluster. If I understand it right, its simply a clustered environment acting as a single node. I've configured RedHat GFS before, which is probably quite different from a beowulf cluster but has similar traits as the GFS allows a cluster to share data in a common storage area virtually acting as a single node file system.
