hi,i am having a probably simple problem but cannot solv it outhope that somebody will be able to help me!
i sucessfully installed winmysql 1.4 version and all commancs work fine from ms prompt.i am planning to use mysql with servlets so i installed odbc driver MyODBC-standard-3.51.9 for windows xp.
so, after the seon installation i wen to administrative tools--> data sources and then clicked on add to add the myodbc driver.i filled out correctly datasource name,description.in connecton parameters i added in host name "localhost" as i m gonna use the server only in my omputer and username,database name,port and password correctly.here comes the problem

when i press the button "test data source" i get the error message:
access denied for user myname@localhost (using password YES)

i have unlocked all privileges for my username but i till get same error.an you hep me please cause i am desperate?thank you

Are you sure the domain's "localhost" and not "%" (all domains)?

Oooh... here's another idea: set the password again, but instead of using "password", use oldpassword("password"). If you have a version of MySQL greater than 4.1, the new password-hashing algorithm may not be compatible with the version of MyODBC you're using.

my mysql version is 4.0.15.i was wondering if you could tell me the syntax for the oldpassword..i m new in these things and i tried a few things but i receive syntx error..thank you very much for helping me

If you have MySQL 4.0, it could be that it prefers v4.1 and up

Try it.
