SQL thread

I'm surprised to see there is no SQL based thread here. So much of programming has to do with database admin/maintenance that it would seem natural. I am actually having a lot of difficulty figuring out SQL Server Xpress, and MSDN is too unorganized for me to make heads or tails of on this subject.

Re: SQL thread

SQL problems are usually in conjunction with problems with the language - often, the SQL is valid but the code producing it isn't. By forcing users to pick a language forum, we can figure out what's going on behind the scenes.

Re: SQL thread

He does have a point though. It might be a good idea to add an SQL forum, or at least a general Databases forum.

Re: SQL thread

I'm happy with that, but you might want to put some sort of notice there stating that any language-specific questions should be asked in the language-specific forums.

The problem here is that sometimes people (new members especially) might not know which is the appropriate forum, and would ask in the wrong place or cross-post.

I like that idea, it could cover things like Database Design, Queries, Software etc. But, would it be appropriate for this forum, I have this debate with people all the time are databases part of programming or not. There are forums that are based on databases only out there anyway.

Database was a part of my degree if that really says anything.

Re: SQL thread

Occupation Health And Safety is part of my course, should we class that as programming?

Re: SQL thread

Did you go to a university or a technical school? Difference being, a university gives you a well-rounded degree with a focus, a technical school gives you a focus with a bit of general education.
