Re: What have you been up to?
Well, for the last year I have been involved mostly with Objective C/C++ and Cocoa environment. I have been through a lot of problems, recently, because I has a problem with my hosting company, and that left hundreds of people out there unable to update their programs (they were updated through the internet by checking the current version on my site).
So, I designed a new site and found a new hosting company, and I now have a decent web location. I then decided to make the site something more, and now I am trying to gather all kinds of technology information and display it on the site (programming, 3D art, articles about every aspect of technology and computers). I have a few members, but I am wondering if the translation to english could make difference. On the programming side of things, I should say that I am currently back on track. I am trying to develop a simple IRC client just to see how things work with sockets. Now I see that sockets are the least problem I have, since I may need to dive into multithreading to make it work with a GUI. On Cocoa, I have developed small programs for personal use, and have been releasing the source to the public. On my site, I have been adding articles and information. On my life, I have been studying for my University, and breaking up with my girlfriend. Since a long era of loneliness is beginning, I may as well devote all that free time to programming and studying. It's nice to at least have something to hold on to when things are messy. That's all I suppose.

Re: What have you been up to?
@TheAberrant: I've been wanting to spend a few days in Dublin, but something always comes up. I hear the pubs out there are great pubs out there. Been wanting to try try out the local Guinness. Are you originally from the US? Go with C++ over Java! I have no verifiable reason for suggesting that, I'm just biased. I've had a few people try and get me into World of Warcraft... but I can't risk another addiction.
![]() @Soulstorm: How do you like Cocoa? I thought about picking it up, but never managed to get around to it. I checked out your site, looks nice... it would definitely be a plus if you could translate it into English. Sorry to hear about your GF, but you are right... more time for programming!

Re: What have you been up to?
I doubt anyone cares, but I recently heard I got in to Electrical Engineering at University of Toronto, Queen's University, and University of Waterloo. It's going to be tough to make the final choice...

Re: What have you been up to?
Sounds pretty sweet. What are the important differences (to you) between them?

Quote:
U of T: Excellent engineering program (widely considered the best University in Canada), but terrible environment. Considered a commuter school where the students go to classes, and go straight back home. Right in the middle of downtown Toronto. Very competitive environment. As I live in Toronto, I would be living at home if I went there. The university "experience" would probably be missing. 3rd year intern program (PEY) where you work at one company for a long period (8 months maybe? I can't remember). U of W: strong reputation for Math, CS, and Engineering in (I'm told) the world. Certainly one of, if not the best in Canada. "Revolutionary" co-op program where students spend 4 months at school followed by 4 months at a paid work position that they must interview for. Results in a 5 year program. Lots of opportunities to find something you enjoy and to get experience in the workforce and all it entails. I've been several times and the the students for the most part seem to be my type of people. An hour away from home so I'm forced to interact socially ( ) but am not too far away if something comes up. Bit of an ugly campus, but there is some greenery.Queen's: A very good program, but U of T and U of W Engineering are probably slightly better. The facilities are fantastic, and the campus is beautiful (lots of old buildings, greenery, located in Kingston, ON which sits on Lake Ontario). 2.5 hours from home (a little far). Probably not as many people there that I could relate to socially.

Re: What have you been up to?
Sounds cool. I would not recommend the first - living out is part of the experience, and you get used to the freedom. I've been at home for a week so far for the Easter break and it's starting to choke me off... I need to get back to uncivilisation.
Plus, it's much easier to get drunk and stumble home at 4am if your parents aren't waiting up for you. ![]() |
