Ever considered a bookmark/browser synchronising tool such as Google Browser Sync?

The reason the quotes worked is like this: without the quotes your like
(Toggle Plain Text) 
cd $HDA1
would evaluate to
(Toggle Plain Text) 
cd /mnt/hda1/Documents and Settings
See the problem? The quotes don't follow through the evaluation so the space breaks your path.
