Re: PC Help Required

No when I run anything disk-heavy it runs as normally as any other program. Plus I have tried a few hard drives with the problem still the same.

It is noisy from when I press the Emachines Power On Button whilest Windows XP loading page is displayed and then when the XP Password Entry appears it quiets down.

I have assessed the inside of the system but can't see anything wrong with it.

I am at a complete loss with this one. Thanks.

Re: PC Help Required

I had a PC case that would vibrate very noisily for about a minute during bootup and then quieten down. Tried taking all the components out of the case and seeing whether it still happens? It'll also make it much easier to identify the source if it's not the case.

Re: PC Help Required

Thanks Ooble. A friend also suggested that it could be the casing or possibly the CPU fan may have become loose.

I really appreciate all the help from everyone on the forum. Thanks.

Re: PC Help Required

I've had a Western Digital hard drive in my pfSense router for over... well going on 4 years now... on 24/7 and the drive is from a computer even older than that... so good brand in my opinion.

Re: PC Help Required

I'd make time to get it down. Nothing worst than what might have been. Maybe spending the 5 minutes to check could save all your data and a lot of time.

Re: PC Help Required

You're absolutely right Ghost. I have opened it up and powered it on. Checked all the components whilest it was on. When I touched the Graphics Card it quietened down. Switched it off and took the card out. Powered it back up without the card in.

Hey Presto! no more noise. I think it is solved this time round.

Again a great big thank you to everyone for their help on this one. Thanks.

Re: PC Help Required

Glad you finally found the problem. Any idea if it can be fixed?

I'm not exactly sure if there is actually anything wrong with it. The card itself is a nVidia GeForce 6200. I installed it some time ago but it wasn't compatible with the Sims 2 (the reason I bought one). I disabled it but left it in the computer incase I ever decided to use it again.

My Brother-in-law gave me a Sound Blaster Audigy sound card when he upgraded his own machine.

I think it is a simple case of the cards being too close to one another. I could try putting it in higher up to see if it is still noisy but I don't really need it so I just storing it away for now.
