after lot of thought I have taken following decissions about projects(for engennering):
projects dumped
1 Designing OS (shortage of time)
2 Designing a Compiler.
3 Developing a game (dont find it apt for college projects)

projects in que
1 Designing a Firewall .
2 DDoS prevention mechanism for Web services (Top in the list, need some serious help )
3 CISCO routers simulation.
4 cryptography related projects.
5 related to linux and file system(would consider if get a head start)
6 to build another layer on operating system(if possible)
I need to make a decision within 10 days.

They are all doable except for the layer over an operating system (what do you mean by that) and there is plenty of information on the web for all of those topics, and likely open source code for all of them as well.

Guess you need to figure out what is most revelevant to your class, and/or what is most relevant to any key areas you have an intent to focus on in the future.

by another layer i mean to hide existing function or add more functionality to an os
ie rather building an os from scratch build an dummy os upon an existing Os.

all projects are related to cirriculum.

well i am interested in hacking and network security..

Actually that seems like an excellent idea, though I gaurantee it will need some pre-planning before you jump into the task.

Intrusion Detection System

Hi ,

I was thinking of developing an IDS.

and in the process I have compiled some Docs:
