Re: Mac Descrimination

what the Heck?

seriously, i don't know weather i have bookies eyes or what.
I never said it was racism, i said it was Discrimination.
Discrimination:
Treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit: racial and religious intolerance and discrimination.

It all comes down to prejudice - his opinion differs from mine on a lot of stuff, i wont go into detail but it seems his opinion is obviously prejudice against mac, from what i can see.

I was willing to stand back and let people have their doubts but when I'm called a liar, i'll stand up for myself, Cheers.

ps, sorry for 'obscene' language. <cools down>

Re: Mac Descrimination

I don't understand -- when did someone call you a liar? I don't recall seeing that. And yes, I agree you did NOT say anything about racism.

But is it discrimination? Not legally because there is no law that says a company can't discriminate against someone because of the operating system on their laptop. IMO your boss has every right to require Windows. That doesn't mean you have to like it or continue working for that company. If you don't like it then quit and work somewhere else.

Re: Mac Descrimination

I thought your last post was directed at me, sorry.

>IMO your boss has every right to require Windows.
For sure, I did say that using windows was not much of an issue. It was the platform he had a problem with.

>That doesn't mean you have to like it or continue working for that company.
I choose not to work under people who have no idea about the field they are a manager in, I've been told i MUST use classic asp (javascript), which is excruciating when newer, easier to use, faster, de-facto standard technology exists. Also the same deal with using access databases and a odbc connection that falls over if more than 5 people connect.

Re: Mac Descrimination

I had a boss like that once -- didn't know the first thing about programming. He required us to add a comment to each and every programming line to explain what it was doing. When he read our programs he would only read the comments because it didn't understand the code.

Discrimination is not racism. Discrimination is seeing differences.

In general, 'discrimination' is the discernment of qualities and recognition of the differences between things.
^ I meant that Discrimination.

Anyway, I am honestly, a big Apple fan, it's just too expensive for me. Good luck

Now you confuse me (and that pretty easy to do ) -- you called his boss a racist, we don't know whether that is true or not because we know very little about him.

I thought discrimination was being biased against a certain aspect of someone or something.

You're right -- but its not necessarily racist. Discrimination may also be a positive thing, example: I discriminate among kinds of applies and oranges I eat.

Re: Mac Descrimination

Racism is essentially a sub-class of discrimination, at least on the surface and denotation of both. It's the connotation that makes them different. Discrimination is a preference to someone/something, whereas racism is exclusion of a person because of their race. Extreme racism/discrimination coupled with the sue-happy lawyers is what gives us the politically correct world we live in today.
