Re: Hello World

In never did hello world programs. I use them to show people how php works but that's about it.
My first prorgam was (I am still proud of) was a binary to decimal converter / decimal to binary converter. That was the first prorgam I did with out the aid of books. All in QBASIC 4.5.
My first program I made (teacher aid - I was 14 / 15 at the time) was a cool guess what number the computer was thinking, but that was copying it from a piece of paper.

Re: Hello World

Well, i recently graduated last October and I'm currently working(on training) at a small company that offers business solutions for SMEs. ATM I'm still reading books about SOA.

My boss told me that the first project that I will be involved would be an Accounting System and DSS.

BTW, this is my first post..Hi everyone!

Welcome to PFO If you didn't take a couple accounting courses in college now would be a good time to read an into book so that you will learn what it is about. Its not a good idea to try to write a computer program for something you know absolutely nothing about.

Thanks for the advise..

Our curriculum had only 2 accounting subjects for our course and fortunately I've learned much of it, well in fact I pursued accounting system as my thesis topic and it was a success. I think that is the same reason why I was procured..

Re: Hello World

Around my seventh I got a book about (Q)Basic in dutch. The first program looked like this:
PRINT "De vis werdt duur betaald"
It ment:
PRINT "Someone payed a lot for the fish"
But that is also considered as a hello world program?

Three years ago, when I still didn't know about visual basic, or at least, I couldn't pay it... I wrote a masterpiece in QBasic 7.5: A program to keep the scores during a Lego-Robot match (R.I.S. Anyone familiar with it? Our team's robot was called R.I.P...) . It was about 2 Mb's. (That's a lot for... how old was I then?) Want screenies?

I got this assigned from my biology teacher. He organised this stuff. So I made that, and it was supposed to be projected with a beamer. But since that biology teacher was bad at organising things, the app got never used

I'm traumatized now - But I sent him the bill after I had to make the next one in Winforms GDI+, which was also quite a big program.

What have I learnt? Biology teachers are bad at organisation and WPF might've been a better idea.
