Re: when did you start programming?

I picked up TI-BASIC at the age of 12. Moved up to good ol' Qbasic pretty soon after learning z80 assembly language when I was 13 or 14.

Re: when did you start programming?

Hi All,

I feel like an old man. I didn't seriously start codeing till I was about 27. My first program was a C++ application for a palmtop, designed to collect field data for the department of agriculture.

I think coders are a special breed, whether you're good or bad at it you do it for the fun a challenge. If you love your job age is irrelavent.

Regards

ScottyB

Re: when did you start programming?

month old post nearly but its a good question...

started when I was 9 on the zx81, typing in incredible amounts of typo ridden code from those programming diy books.

That was 23 years ago and I still suk.

Re: when did you start programming?

@ the guy who noticed many basic starters...
That's true

Me too. I wrote my first program on one of these LOGO! plc's when I was about 5 - I made lights blink and stuff. When I was seven my dad introduced me to QBasic, he didn't know at that time I'd be close to professional now with Visual Basic.Net (2005/2008)

Sometimes I feel nostalgic and start up Qbasic again xD

LOGO, wow. Those were the days. I actually used it recently for a set of motors. I still use QBasic actually, look up FreeBasic, I think you would find it interesting.

I use Visual Basic .NET professionally as well. I have learnt JAVA, C++, COBOL and my favourite would still have to be VB.NET!

--I think a couple of C++ programmers have laughed at me for this reason.

Freebasic, I know about that, It's a LibertyBasic lookalike. But when I discovered Visual Studio, I didn't want to go back anymore

Heh heh. I know what you mean. I find it so annoying that some programmers doing realize the potential of the BASIC language. Sure, C++ and all that are better, but when you want simplicity and readable coding, BASIC dialects (eg VB.NET) are very powerful. It's almost like writing pusedo code. Heh heh.
