Two weeks ago, I started a project with the designers of thedesignforums.com, The plan was to make it a skinnable shell replacement. So far it's going well, and if the code gets a little more understandable I might consider making it open source.
You can learn more on the V site:
http://tierro.thedesignforums.com/V/
I'll tell what's in there at the moment:
- The upper panel contains some shortcuts and a dropdown menu.
- The lower panel contains all the running tasks
- Every single element is skinnable
- The desktop also shows thumbnails of images and videos, unlike Windows and Gnome (As far as I know)
- Dynamic tooltips - I named them Hovercrafts. When you hover your mouse over an icon for a moment, on of these will pop up and shows a preview in case of multimedia, if desired
- Intelligent icon sizing
- IE Based tabbed browsing
- Easy filetype management
- Primitive control panel
- Very cool extensively tested (some members thevistaforums and thedesignforums have tested it) dropdown mediaplayer.
What's coming up soon or later:
- A cubed desktop
- Any of your ideas?
If you want to see screenshots, visit the site mentioned above. I'll upload some new screenies tonight.
Let me know what you think ,
