Hello

I am not a programmer by any stretch of the imagination.

I subscribed to Computeach just over 3 years ago but I only completed about six months of the 3 year course (C#.Net). This is partly due to the nature of my job - I'm in the Army and have spent a year of the last three in Iraq - and a touch of laziness on my part too.

I would like to continue learning but Computeach want £266 per quarter to provide continued support. My other option is to have all the course materials which I have paidf for sent to me and make the most of it. I'd like to so this but I need to find someone who I can casually ask for advice when I get stuck. Would anyone on here mind helping please or at least recommend a better place to find help?

I have also put this as a thread elsewhere on the board before anyone points it out to me.

Re: Hello

You're not supposed to "cross-post" (posting identical questions in more than one place). Please familiarize yourself with the board rules.

If you want a place to casually ask for advice when you get stuck, then you've found the right place. Just don't ask questions without having done any work first.

And welcome!

Re: Hello

I'll consider myself told off shall I?

The second part goes without saying.

Hmmmm - what a warm, welcoming place.... So glad I said hello.

Re: Hello

Welcome indeed

Unfortunately, we've had a lot of people who would post their school assignments (either paste the text or provide a .doc) and say "I don't know how to do this please show me" and then expect us to provide their answers, so a lot of us tend to give the "Read the rules and show work" lecture for first posts. But for a place to casually ask questions, this is certainly a good place

Sorry Phil, I didn't mean to sound so cold. I was short for time, and tried to condense several important points into a couple lines. Jimbo said it better than I did.

Basically there's no "free lunch". But if you demonstrate effort, we're all here to help eachother out with any questions you have, no matter how simple (or complicated) they may be.

Re: Hello

OK guys I can see where you're coming from now. I can assure you I'm not going to be tested on any of this in the forseeable future so any questions I have are genuinely to improve my understanding, not to con my way through any courses or homework. I hope to be able to contribute as fully as possible as my understanding improves.

Merry Christmas Sane and Jimbo. All the best to you and your families.
