Re: F# coming to a Visual Studio near you!

God damn! Not another .NET language, I have to start learning another one! And I just got the hang of C#.

Considering how primitive most mainstream languages are, I'd say any deviation from the norm is a good idea.

.NET. An alternative to Java. Personally, both .NET languages and Java are annoying to use. Maybe because I'm so use to C++.

Ah, but it does allow those who love functional programming (like myself) to give back to those who use typical .NET languages on a regular basis, in the form of a supported and fairly well established functional language (in terms of being based on Caml which has seen its share of industrial usage.)

Personally, I get an incredibly large sense of dislike when I see Caml-based languages (and most likely by association, I haven't messed with F#.) But I've just installed F# 1.9.2.9 and am looking to experiment and potentially do something interesting with it in the near future.

What kind of space leaks are happening? I've been with haskell for (almost) a year now and haven't had many [if any] leaking issues (despite the claims it does it "uncontrollably.") I'd be really interested in hearing any stories or seeing some code, if you're willing to show any...

but it's a shame I got rid of my last Windows partition.
F# has high mono support, it seems. Don Syme, who seems to be the head of F# development generally posts .ZIP files for Mono paired with typical MSI installers from a quick look over. At the very least, you can get a link to the mono zip for F# 1.9.2.9 from this blog entry.

It was in some numerical code, an implementation of a Naive Bayes learning algorithm. Something somewhere was building up what I guess to be a huge numerical expression, and despite my best efforts, I couldn't strictify it away. I ended up having to run some programs' outer loops in Perl.
