Theres a guy at my sisters work who burns his programming books when he has read them, my sister (she the network administraitor) was talking to him about me the other day, he has decided to pass the books on to me. He says the reason for burning them is they take up a lot of room. Is this a normal practice? I like to keep mine in case somtime in the future i forget something. So do you guys do like this guy and get rid of them or do you pack them away or what?

Normal practice? It might be, for an idiot. What does he do when he realizes some necessary piece of information was in the book he just burned?

Even assuming he remembers everything, never forgetting a single word, hadn't he considered donating or selling the books before now? Like I said, standard practice for an idiot.

I just add them to my book case for later use. Once that is full I will buy another book case and start adding to that one. I keep all my books around as reference, because I know there will be a day when I will need to look something up. I guess you can use the internet for that, but I prefer to use a book if I have it.

Buring a book after he reads them? That is ludacris at best.

I still have my very first programming book, I think it was (C) in the mid '70s.
If I "collect" anything... it would be programming books. I have a little over 300 now. Addiction? Maybe.

That's nuts, If I was going to dispose of mine somehow, I'd give them away. I sure as hell wouldn't burn them. That goes for any book (unless it was extremely damaged or something, then maybe). I have 50 or so odd books, and on average I'd say the price of them is about 50-70 dollars a piece.

I have bought a book that I thought sucked really bad, but I didn't burn it, I just gave it away. Any person who burns books should be punched in the face.

What a stupidity! Books must stay there for reference! As I know guys but a thousand page book cannot be memorized! and people often save them to have them later as reference!

P.S: Though I think that the burning-book-guy doesn't have a TB hard drive in his head!
