Auction web site software

Sorry I wasn't sure where to post this question as there wasn't a general forum. I'm going to be building an auction site and I'm looking for online auction software... free or pay-for software. Something like a php, cgi or asp based web application or something else. I don't even know because I've never looked for something like this before. I found a cgi resource library (can't post a link because I'm a new user) , and I'm looking through the options, but they aren't all that great. I've also found a few other auction applications but I don't know much about them (i.e. if they are reliable, good software, still being developed, etc, etc):
- xcAuction
- rwAuction
- Add Auction Software
- SiteApps Auctions
- phpBB Auction
- PHPauction

I looked a bit into rwAuction as it seems to be somewhat well known and I found some reviews at aspin.com:

It got a 5 star rating from 27 users. Most of the reviews were great with 5 stars, except for about 3 or 4 reviews. But those 3 or 4 reviews revealed some slightly large flaws with rwAuction.

1) "there is no option to start or end auction on a pre-determined schedule"

2) rwAuction requires that a DLL file be installed on the host. This is a huge problem since most hosts will not allow this. The company says they "can provide a list of web hosting companies other than our own that supports rwAuction Pro", although why change hosts if you've already got a great hosting plan, just so you can install a DLL file??

3) Someone mentioned there is no skin/template support. I'll have to look into this further, but if there is no easy way to design a custom layout/template for rwAuction, this is a HUGE flaw (IMO).

xcAuction also has a high rating, so I'll read through that... does anyone else have personal experience with any of this software?

if anyone else can offer me some of their knowledge, I would appreciate it.

rwAuction Pro v5.0

Hi Atomicrabbit,

1. This is already a feature in v5.0
2. There are multiple DLL files that need to be installed. If you aren't willing to move to a compatible server then of course there is little we can suggest for you.
3. This is already a feature in v5.0

I would recommend going through our feature list and online demo from our website. Many past reviews were based on previous versions which aren't all applicable as we have improved the software.

Thank you,

Those silly folks, expecting you to be respectful of the rules that you agreed to when you joined. What are they thinking?

sorry for the late response... been busy this weekend. What is with the spam stuff? Are the links I had in my first post not allowed? How is that spam?
