Learning ASP.net

I'm planning to learn ASP.net 2.0 in the coming month. I already know C#.net.
Well, I have checked several books online planning to buy one.

The best two books I personally found to teach me ASP.net are:
1. ASP.NET 2.0 Website Programming: Problem - Design - Solution by Marco Bellinaso.
2. Programming ASP.NET (O'Reilly) by Jesse Liberty & Dan Hurwitz.

Any suggestion to which one is better? Do you suggest O'Reilly books?

I also checked the "For Dummies" series, but found that to study ASP professionally, I wouldn't go for dummies.

I am currently reading Programming ASP.NET and so far, it's been pretty good. O'Reilly book haven't let me down yet! ASP.NET is really powerful so I would apply to what you learn quickly and combine new skills into a new small project and build upon once you learn new and better things.

Believe it or not, there is a lot there to learn from. Videos, samples, tutorials and all kind of other resources. Good luck learning.

Nice to hear that. From what I've seen and read, I think I'm going to choose the O'Reilly book, but the only problem is that it's 930 pages, and I want to cover it quickly.

As for application, I agree with you that you need to directly apply your skills on a small project, and that's why I'm planning to work on building my personal website. I'm also going to read and learn about CSS which I'm also planning to use on my website.

In the afternoon, I'm heading to check the books in a bookstore.

Ghost thank you for the link.

If you use Visual Web Developer, I think VWD 2008 beta 2 is publicly available (at least the Express edition), and it should have much better CSS support than VS 2005. Then again, it's a beta version, and there's a few (i.e. several) bugs you'll have to put up with till the release. The .NET 3.5 framework also includes the AJAX 1.0 controls previously available as a side package (though backwards compatibility has some issues there).</shameless plug>

Checked VWD 2008 for the first time, and it seems interesting. I think I'm going to download it and check how effective it is

Like I said, the beta still has some annoying bugs (like Ctrl-tab doesn't work in design view, as I recall), but most of the functionality should be there. VWD 2005 is also available if you're liking it but the bugs are too annoying; you'll lose some features on the older one, but a lot of the changes have to do with AJAX controls and CSS stuff.
