Well Im still in college due to start my senior year this fall and towards the end of last year I posted my resume at a few sites in order to be able to apply to some internships that I came across. And since then I have been receiving a few fulltime job offers here and there most of which the companies have appoligized for bothering me after I mention I haven't graduated as of yet along with a few still offering me the jobs even after.

I was recently contacted by a company that does simulation and training software offering me a great job basically doing something that is one step from what I eventually want to do which is make video games. After I told them I was still in school, they still offered me an entry level position if I was willing to relocate. They have viewed alot of my work and are now ready to buy me a ticket to fly out for a face to face interview. (I know I'm still far away from actually getting the position)

My question is though, would you think it would harm me in the long run if I put my degree on hold to pursue this or would it be more beneficial to gain actual experience in the field?

Well it depends:
- can you still take your exams without attending some courses ? ( in Romania there are some mandatory classes but some you can miss and just show up for the exam)
- does the firm agree that you go for a few hours to school ?
- how much are you going to learn in your last year in college ?

Personally I think you should finish your degree , cause the jobs will probably still be there - but your will to finish the degree if you put it on hold might decrease.

So - try and see if you can do both at the same time

( have your cake and eat it too :p)

Well there is not a university within an hour or two drive from the company that offers a Computer science degree that I could transfer too.

Yeah, agreed - if you can do both, do both. If only one, do the degree. If you get the qualification now, you'll not regret it.

You know, a friend of mine took a year off of school to work at some software company in the east. In a year he made enough money to buy a house. From this I'd say go for it. If you don't take an opportunity like this now it may never come again. Relocation should not be a problem as many people do it. If you can put school on hold do it. That's what I should have done and if I did I'd have a job working with networks.

Stay in school! Money is great to have fun but a degree is so much more important. If you can, do both! That's what I'm doing!

Ok, I see your point so MicDareall, can your friend buy a house with the money he'll earn in a year ?:beard: If so, maybe he should put college on hold.

But it will be difficult to finish afterwards - cause he won't want to go to school where he'll make no money(or not so much money).

Have you thought about seeing if you could work remotely. I would ask about that and depending on what they are going to have you do, you might be able to. Also ask, if they have any other sites you could work at that are close to schools. Yes, I will agree that money to buy a house and support a family is nice, it's not always worth it. My brother doesn't have his degree and he's been working with this one company for a couple years, he doesn't like the fact that he can't really grow in the company, can't apply for higher positions because he's not "qualified". So finish college, and let them know that if the offer is still there you'll take it.
