Latin word for english word "and"

Hey yall, I'm currently designing my own first tattoo, It's the attachment. On the banner, in the part it says A7X I'm puttin Carpe, in the part says sex, I' m putting Diem, then in the big part I'm putting "Seize the Day" which is Carpe Diem in english. Then above the sword and skull, I'm putting Momento Mori, which is "Remember that you are mortal". Now I want to put the latin "and" in the skull so the whole tattoo will read "Remember you are mortal, and seize the day."

I found the latin word "ac" for and, but also a word "atque" I want to be sure I have the right one, since it's permanent. Thanks again

Consider "et".

Wow, ridiculous, you're getting a tatoo with Latin on it.

I guess it's a step up from people getting tatoos in Japanese (because at least a lot of people will know what "carpe diem" means), but it's still stupid. Why have shit permanently written on your body that nobody will understand?

You may think I sound mean. Good. I'm actually trying to help you, by trying to dissuade you from doing something so monumentally stupid. If you think I'm wrong, feel free to ignore me.

By the way, "and" in Latin is indeed "et".

You know, I don't mean to sound mean, and I have no tattoos myself (though I've considered getting one and may yet), and finally it's none of my business, but despite all these facts I thought I'd mix in too

I think the fact that you had to ask about the latin suggests that you probably shouldn't have it on a tattoo. Since tattoos are permanent and very much a part of you, I think you should get something that means enough to you and is specific enough to you that you will not regret it.

Of course, it's just my opinion. But consider this: not long ago I'd only ever owned Honda bikes. I started on a CLR125, then rode a CD250U for a while, and I was thinking about saving up for a 600 Shadow, which was my dream bike at the time (a nice black one with lots of chrome - yes, I'm a poser ). So I thought about getting the Honda logo tattooed on my arm. (Not the word HONDA, but the little wing emblem - I don't like tattoos with text, since when people look at me I'd rather they didn't literally read me... but that's a matter of personal preference of course).

Well, good thing I didn't. Shortly after that I got Marlena, my 1974 MZ ES150/1, and what a fantastic little machine she is. Of course I still had the Honda (the 250) as my practical commuter ... but recently I bought Eris, my Kawasaki GPZ500S, and will shortly sell the 250, at which point my Honda allegiance will be pretty much entirely broken. So much for that. And I can't help thinking, if I had gotten the tattoo a couple of years ago, I might not have bought the MZ or the Kwak. Which is pretty bizarre.

Well I definitely don't want the Kawasaki logo as a tattoo. The MZ sabre is pretty cool, but I think I've learned my lesson. I may not own the MZ forever. I have high hopes of outliving her and probably won't buy another.

I don't really know what the point in all this is. I guess what I'm saying is that whatever seems cool and no matter how cool it seems, remember you may be mortal but your life span, as a human being, is pretty long. I'm not against tattoos - like I say, I may well get one someday - but I think you have to choose really carefully and make it something that is very much a part of you, so fundamental to your mind (such a changeable thing over the coming decades) that you will always think it's great to have it.

Well I guess for someone who's admitted he knows it's none of his business I've rambled on a long time about this. But I'll just say: I've never had a friend or acquaintance who's had a tattoo done with a logo, some text, a dagger or a skull and not regretted it at some point.

A very close friend of mine got one at the base of her spine of a shark - just a plain black silhouette. She'd loved sharks since she was about three years old. Sadly I've lost touch with her since but I'm pretty sure she doesn't regret the tattoo - I can't imagine that she ever will. (Looked gorgeous, too)

Well, I don't want to be a killjoy. If you've got your heart set on this one then good luck, and I hope it's everything you hope it'll be!

Lets see, I know what monmeto mori, and carpe diem means. I was gonna have them put on there anyway with or without the and, but I thought I would tie the together, so it would read like remember that you are mortal, and seize the day.
Instead of having two separate thoughts. I agree some may think tattoos are stupid, and I agree in a sense if they have no meaning, this tattoo and the other ones i have already planned on all have a meaning. Maybe not to you, but to me. So don't think somethign is stupid just because you don't like it.

Also remember that you will have people asking you what your tatoo is for the rest of your life.

Although I don't think you have to worry about the translating part. Most people know what Momento Mori and Carpe Diem mean.

I never knew what "momento mori" meant until reading this thread.

I'd also like to caution people who don't know Latin agains randomly sticking Latin phrases together. I have no idea what the rules are in Latin for connecting sentences with "and", but you may well end up with something grammatically incorrect if you just cut 'n' paste.
