My suggestion is find something you like to do and program it. Come up with your own problem and solve it. Most the crap I do in my high school classes don't attract me because it's all lame. It's all little kid stuff (IMO). I help out by mamanging the computers in one of the labs and managing user accounts. So I set out to create a program that would read in a list of first and last names and create user accounts from them. Just find something you like and make a program for it. Some said they liked Art. They could make a program that would store information about Artists or something like that. If you like baseball you could do a stats program, same with almost any sport. Don't look at it as Okay Teacher give me an assignment, be like I'm going to make my own, and you might be able to work it out to where you get credit for it. If you work on your own program, when you finish it, it will give you a big boost as well as you wont be tempted to compare yourself to other students.

There is little to no programming involved in Electrical Engineering. At my school, a BS in engineering requires only a single quarter of introductory programming. If you're looking for a hardware-related major that is perhaps higher-paying than Computer Science, I would look into Computer Engineering (CPE), which is essentially a combination of EE and CS.

I'm under the impression that EE would be a pretty good bet because it's such a large field. Power generation, electronics, computers, robotics, etc. If I can get into a EE program in just over 1 year from now(which is is likely, but I'm not going to count my chickens, etc), I think it would be the best thing -- both in terms of my interests/strengths and career opportunities.

Stick with it, don't quit it, you're bound to get it!
I was in your boat a year or so back, until i started setting myself projects for things that I wanted to do. This made the learning process a lot better for me as I was actually interested in what I was doing. After a while of looking at tutorials and analysing code samples, things just started to instantly click in my head. When you finally get to understand programming concepts, its pretty hard to forget IMHO. But you won't get it unless you are interested in it. |

One thing I do when I'm in a funk is ass little personal touches in to my programs. Such as easter eggs that pop up when you press a certain key, or my own graphics instead of the class set. Find one thing about the project that you find interesting and make it the last thing you do.

well you made it this far, that says something for you! there's a dude in my CS clases that probably falls into your category...close to the end of our data structures II class the teacher told him that none of his programs work and he has to redo all of them in two weeks. obviously that is an insurmountable task. i'm surprised he made it this far. maybe change your major to computer information systems or something like that. maybe data security if they have that. hell, i'm 27 years old and still have three semesters to go. sometimes it takes a while to find your niche. especially at a young age when your brain is still not fully developed. when i was in the army i had a website and picked up a book on HTML and went from there..the rest is history. if you made it this far, you have some smarts, apply that towards another major. dude, not to be harsh, but if your classmates are literally laughing at your code at this point you need to change focus. you can still rake in the big bucks, but maybe with something different. oh, it might take you another semester if you change majors now, but i was a a psych major back in '99. look hgow long it took me!
good luck! ![]() if i actually followed my gay-ass plan from highschool i would have been an optometrist at the age of 23...4 years ago. --ben
