One-stop forum manager
A program that would manage all the forums you visit. You could select a forum from a list, and the program would go behind the scenes to get the new posts, etc. from that forum. You could also make new posts through this one program, etc.
So anyway, the point is that you would be able to access all online message boards in one place without having to separately go to each site. Does anyone like this idea. However the forums themselves would have to implement some sort of common interface that this program could access to get posts, to make new posts, to login etc., otherwise the app would have to use screen-reading hacks to do it. IDK I'm quite tired right now and can't really express myself properly in English but if anyone follows what I'm saying let me know if you like the idea. I can't actually implement this app (I'm focused on my iTunes replacement project among "real life" responsibilities, like school, sleep, food), but I may implement it later. Even if not, I thought it was a good idea.

I was actually thinking something pretty close to that, I'm not too keen on RSS but, wouldn't it be possible to use RSS for this?

As long as the website publishes an rss feed. I think that it would be pretty cool, although there may be some resistance from reluctant webmasters!

Nah, I mean webmasters who want people to visit their site, not just post on some characterless interface thingy.

The question is, how would they know? Google allows RSS feeds to show up on there personalized homepages. Whats to stop you from taking the RSS feeds, and manipulating them a bit. The only real challenge would be to produce a common interface, and allow you to post topics and replies.
I think it would be interesting to see how this project would turn out, but I honestly don't think I'd use it. I prefer/enjoy going to check out the websites & forums. If you use an interface like this, you might forget what the actually purpose of the forum is. |
