As I said before I thought both the 'teach yourself' c and c++ Herbert Schildt books were excellent. I've read many programming books, by many different authors. Some programming books can be hard to follow and are badly constructed, and one has to re-read stuff many times to understand whats happening. In my opinion none of these bad attributes apply to Schildt (teach yourself c/c++) books.
If you say the general consensus is that these books are bad then I believe you, but after a quick google search I cant find any bad reviews. The books are highly rated on amazon.com.
I also wonder if theres some bias on the accu.org website. I only quickly browsed the review on accu, but one thing that really annoyed me was where the reviewer was saying that a major fault in the 'teach yourself c++' book was the fact that must be familiar with c first. Well I have that c++ book and it clearly states on the cover that you must know c first, the book is not trying to decieve anyone!!! Also the review complained about some 'major' errors in the book, well all books have errors in them, so what, a few errors doesn't make the book bad.
