but

Its out of context of what I said. If he can't program, he wont be going vary far with game programming. Its as simple as that. So he is better off getting some other books which will help him elevate from where he is. If I remember correctly, you are an EE. Would you recommend a high school student who does not know E of EE a book about algorithmic verification on concurrent system models straight away because he wants to be an EE? Its not a good book for him.

Ok I took a look at the book in my university library and as i expected, to quote the book:

"This book assumes that you can program. You are going to be fairly lost if you can’t write C code. However, the book uses some C++—enough to make a C coder just a little uneasy."
Note that it is outdated. I'm not sure of the differences between 8 and 9 as I don't use directX. however I am a fair dubious of version changes since they removed 2D stuff from directX 7.
As usual I'm sure some smart forum member can spend ten minutes flaming me for being wrong and then perhaps another minute on any relevant differences.

They removed DirectDraw from DirectX 8. The author doesn't like this, so he teaches DDraw 7 and then D3D 8, and explains how you can use DGraphics to do both.
