There may be some reasons why he continues writing programming books.

yeah dawei, the bud horses trampled me. in the books i read to get started, pointers made more sense in C. thta's just the way i learned, if it's more helpful for another member to start in C++, then they should be fine.

Good promotion?

There thousands of real-life examples of products that sell better than others, but are bad quality. As far as Schildt is concerned, the only thing I am interested in is whether he teaches good C++. Since he doesn't, I don't care why he is still in business.

Well you know i like very much your tutorials on C++ in the tutorials section. I think that you might consider writing a book.

Let the right hand not know what the left hand is doing. HE was talking about giving to the poor secretly (i guess) not knowledge.

And then : goto here.

WOW, really it seems that i should read a good book.

Yeah, you should. Try "Posting Guidelines", "How To Avoid Being Ironic Without A Reason", and "How To Carefully Read Others' Posts To Have An Understanding Of What They Are Talking About".

Then, I suggest you move on to a book about C++ and while you are doing that, go to http://accu.org/ and read some reviews about Herbert's books.

Good luck.

I think that Tom Cruise is a very talented actor, but as i recall good he has never won an oscar.

I`ll surely read what the others say about Herbert, i have 3 of his books in pdf format and mostly use them as references. I wasn`t being ironic but take a look here.

If you have a big nose there is no reason why you have to mock others about their big nose.

And by the way i think that we are "in war" without proclaiming one, so lets make peace.

May GOD be with all of us. Cheers.

As I said before I thought both the 'teach yourself' c and c++ Herbert Schildt books were excellent. I've read many programming books, by many different authors. Some programming books can be hard to follow and are badly constructed, and one has to re-read stuff many times to understand whats happening. In my opinion none of these bad attributes apply to Schildt (teach yourself c/c++) books.

If you say the general consensus is that these books are bad then I believe you, but after a quick google search I cant find any bad reviews. The books are highly rated on amazon.com.

I also wonder if theres some bias on the accu.org website. I only quickly browsed the review on accu, but one thing that really annoyed me was where the reviewer was saying that a major fault in the 'teach yourself c++' book was the fact that must be familiar with c first. Well I have that c++ book and it clearly states on the cover that you must know c first, the book is not trying to decieve anyone!!! Also the review complained about some 'major' errors in the book, well all books have errors in them, so what, a few errors doesn't make the book bad.
