The SCJP certificate is worth the effort IMO, but it is not worth $2500. I bought a book for $30 that contains practice exams and all the of the needed study material. The exam itself I believe costs $100.00 from sun. So all together I will have $130 dollars into the SCJP certification. I studied for it in my spare time.
I say it is worth it because it tells an employer that you actually know the Java language, not to mention object oriented concepts, basic data structures, etc. (The java exam is very tricky.) Yeah, you might say if you have a B.S. in computer science that you should know this stuff, but "should" is the keyword there. I'm sure everyone knows a handful of people who have a B.S. in computer science and couldn't program a "hello world!" application if their life depended on it. Any certification is a plus on your resume. |
