Loi, you've been away for a while, but that's no reason to resurrect ancient threads. Visit more often, if you find it worthwhile at all. Otherwise, we have little choice but to categorize you as an elitest Guru of Godness.

DaWei, in your opinion should he have sent a PM instead, or started a new thread and provided a link to the old? It seems to me that resurrecting an old thread with relevant information is not that big a crime.

Started a new thread. Not, it's not a significant crime; I wouldn't execute him for it. After a significant amount of time, it's just better to introduce a new thread. Arevos, I'm really sorry you find it necessary to carp at my posts; you're one of he few remaining knowledgable contributors. Your primary misapprehension is that you find it self-promotional to promote yourself by denigrating me; that, of course, flies, with many of the visitors. Nothing is quite so empowering as denigrating DaWei.

I do visit regularly, although I don't always post. It is not as though the thread was buried six feet under, I thought that the information was relevant and that someone might be interested. It seems pointless to start a new thread to say 'look there's an update'. At least this way if no-one is interested the thread will simply drift off again!

If you got that impression, then I apologise. Whilst I have my flaws, I am not quite that petty, nor should you think that any criticism on my part is some sort of a personal vendetta against you. I am not interested in self-promotion, and I cannot see where you got that impression from, but I assure you it's incorrect.

The reason for my disagreement has no hidden motive or malicious intent. It is simply that I disagree with you on what is appropriate. I don't think LOI's reply was inappropriate, as it is a relevant addition to the topic at hand, and to my mind preferable to starting a new thread, as it seems more convenient to keep posts along the same topic in the same thread.

Merely because I disagree with you, doesn't necessarily mean I'm trying to disparage you, in the same way that merely because you disagree with LOI, doesn't mean you're trying to disparage him. If I wasn't frank or straightfoward enough, then that was because I was attempting to be polite, though perhaps my indirect approach gave you the wrong idea.

Perhaps it would be instructive to conduct a search for poster Arevos, content DaWei, versus poster Arevos, content any other member. Surely I'm not that interesting a technological subject. The unconscious is a strange beast.

Correlation does not imply causation. For instance, when replying to a thread poster, one frequently doesn't refer to them by name, because that's already implied. However, replying to an individual post usually does require a mention of the poster, either via a quotation or directly. You and I start very few threads, but reply to many, so it's natural when I reply to you it would show up on such a search, whilst if I replied to the poster of a thread, it would not.

Secondly, you are the most consistently critical of all forum regulars, and tend to be very blunt in your views. Your replies to this post are typical of this blunt approach; you accuse me of pursuing a deliberate vendetta against you in some malicious attempt to raise my social status, and such an accusation is hard not to take offence at. I'm not a fan of impoliteness; I don't believe there are many situations that warrant it, and I have a tendency to interject when it occurs. So if I do find myself replying to you often, it's more to do with how often you put your view across a little too directly, and how often your posts verge into impoliteness and insults, rather than some unconscious obsession on my behalf.

I respect the great deal technical experience knowledge you possess, and I typically find myself agreeing with many of your answers, or finding out new tidbits of information which I didn't know before. But what I do not like are the occassions you cross the line between being honest and frank, to making veiled insults and offensive allusions, as you have done in this thread today. It's simply not nice, and if I have ever done anything in the past to warrant such venom, I fully apologise for it now.

Considering that this was stickied by Big_k, I'm not going to close it, however these last few posts are not relevant to the topic of the thread. If you need to continue this discussion, please do so via PM.
