kinda in the same boat with being stuck in a java class, (ahah pun) I dont mind it, but i prefer my c/c++ reguardless im looking for a simple tut on usage of the javac compiler, basicaly i want to get my simple helloworld program to compile, i can do that, but i cannot find the output file/pick one/execute the program.

If you're on Windows, I suggest checking out Jcreator. It's free, and it's a nice little environment.

Although I use Netbeans 3.6 I think that you could use Borland's Jbuilder X Foundation. It is much simpler to use and it has all the features needed code coloring, code completion, build cycle, jar deployment and it is not as complicated as NetBeans.
The best thing about JBuilder is the way that handles different versions of the Java SDK.
