Salaries of the professionals out there?
I'm interested to know what you guys make, as well as your experience. I'm thinking about majoring in CS, but I'm wondering if there is still a good market for it. Thanks! PM me if you do not want your salaries public. Gracias!

I think there's another thread like this back in the archives somewhere... but I'm too lazy to dig it out.
To answer your question, I graduate this spring (i.e. 0 experience) and I've recently received an offer for 80k/yr. (USD)

As of right now. I make $12 per hour and I am just a senior in High School. I plan on going to N.J.I.T. and get a B.S. in Computer Science maybe even my M.S. too. I mean $12 for SQL programming isn't bad, the work is really easy and the staff is fun and I create run-time web applications that companies use! I love this profession! I mean I wouldn't called myself professional but I am on my way there.
EDIT: go to http://www.monster.com Type in "Software Engineer" or "Programmer" and see the results.

OF COURSE! There is no need to doubt this profession, it is one of the fastest growing and highest paid professions out there. The salary is relative to your location, if you are in a larger city (with higher cost of living) your salary is normally higher. I won't comment on my salary, but I will tell you that when I go to buy something, I rarely look at the price.

 Half the fun of shopping is finding the best deal for what you want. Just because I can afford stuff doesn't mean I don't shop around and haggle. ![]() >I'm interested to know what you guys make, as well as your experience. I have about ten years of experience in systems programming and languages. I'd rather not say what I make, but I will say that it's more than enough to live quite well in Atlanta. And no, I'm not comfortable telling strangers my salary, in public or not. >I'm thinking about majoring in CS, but I'm wondering if there is still a good market for it. There will always be a good market for skilled developers. The days where any yahoo with a resume could get a programming job are long gone, but I think the field as a whole is very accessible. Just don't expect a six digit salary for a while. ![]()

I earn something between 1.5k and 1.6k per month, and I'm just 15. So yes, I guess there's still market for it, as I'm not even officially professional.

Time for me to get a hell of a lot more proficient in math and programming...As for what I make in the CS field: $0 a month. All my (crummy) programming projects are freeware, and the two websites that I have done have been for my church and a non-profit organization, so they obviously didn't pay me (nor did I expect to be paid).

But I don't have much patience to shop around. Haha. I guess I pay out of the yingyang for convenience and in the futile effort to save time.
