Compaines dont chop and change languages and platforms on a whim. They dont use what is cool or what is on the bleeding edge of technology, they use stable, secure and mature systems. Java has been around for 10 years and there is a hell of a lot of code that is just that. Its just been anounced that Sun will release it under the GPL so its here to stay. C# is great, but MS will never release a version for solaris or linux. Java is great beucause it runs on windows, solaris and linux. But why stop there, C and C++ are great because that is everwhere too. In fact there are about 10 languages that are avaliable on all three of those platforms that are a far safer choice than anything MS creates. Remeber what MS did with VB? They basically said VB6 is dead, long live VB.net. That pissed a lot of people off and i dont think i would trust MS not to do it again. I dont care if C# and half the .net class library and CLR are ECMA standards. They will one day find a way to fuck all C# programmers when the next thing comes along in say 10 years time. |
