Abnormally large text

The Problem: Text in some applications show up bigger than in others. Its more of a nuisance than an actual problem, but even still there is no reason (that I can think of) why it should do this.
Screen shots of the the problem:
Winzip
In Windows
JCreator
Half-Affected
*Control

Steps taken: Adjusted DPI, reinstalled video drivers, turned off any accessibility options, reinstalled troubled applications.

Anyone care to take a stab at it?

One of the screen settings allows selection of small or large fonts. It typically is found from Screen Properties/Settings by hitting the "Advanced" button. Another dialog typically pops up at that point, and has a "General" tab. One of the display settings is then Small or Large fonts. [I say "typically" here, because software installed to support quite a few video cards and monitors adjusts the various screens by adding some settings; if you have a video card or monitor with such associated software, you will need to hunt a bit].

The "Small Fonts" settings is the windows default and, in practice, quite a few applications do not cope well with the "Large Fonts" setting (I have encountered a few applications that work only with the "Large Fonts" setting). The discussion of the reason for that and the workarounds (unfortunately, by developer of the application, not by the end user) to support variable font settings is a discussion for another day.

I assume your talking about the DPI settings, I've already played with that to no avail, it is on the 'Normal' Setting, yes. But what I cant figure out is why it affects some programs and not others.

No, not DPI settings, font size settings. It is under the Appearance tab in Display Properties in Windows XP.

To expand on The Dark's clarification (I made the image before I read the post, so I'm linking to it, dammit):

Also AntNinja, are you using XP with an unofficial Visual Style, some of them do funny things to the fonts in certain programs. Try testing some different styles perhaps? I could be way off here though.

Actually Eoin I think that might be the problem, I've been using the unofficial 'Royale' theme for XP. Although I cant remember when the problem started happening, and if it was because of this theme then its too late now because from what I've tried(switching back to normal)...its irreversible.

@TheDar, lectricpharaoh: Yeah its always been on normal, and it only effects certain programs so thats not the problem.
