I was just wondering if anyone here has any white hat hacking experiance... maybe even black or grey hat... who knows, just share your stories here.

I don't think this goes against any rules since we aren't talking about how to hack, but more of our own stories.

Here's mine:

My old school admin knew that I had some computer and networking smarts, mostly from me helping him out with a number of problems , but anyways... he wanted me to check if the school network was secure. They were using an outdated security system, so I just did the good ol scan on it found out what ports were open/closed and so on... after I got that info I foud out the school main system IP and I did a scan on that... I found out what port the network security was running on and I did some reaserch over a couple of days to see what can cause errors to it... I found a amazing exploit for it off of google (because of my lack of knowledge in c/c++ I couldn't write one ) and than I talked to the admin to watch the computers... I hooked up my old laptop next to his main computer and I used the exploin... the DoS attack knocked out the server for the entire day. This convinced him to update his security and randomize the ports on which things run...

Funny...

This isnt a hacking story more of a programmer's revenge.

I was writing PHP code for someone's site and they asked me to setup a forum and a few other things, he offered to pay me $500 to do this. Since it wouldnt take me more than 30-40mins i said yes and set it up. i was however suspicious because he had screwed me over before. So after setting it up, perfectly with his templates and logos he had made and stuff. I asked him to check it out to see what he thought... he said it was great, and thanked me for doing it. However when i asked him about the money he said he couldnt pay me now because of family issues (2 hrs time lapse here..). I was furious and said i was going to delete all the files and he would have to start over again, after he statees he changed the username and password i say thats irrelevant and to look at his site, because they are all gone.

I had installed a simple PHP include script on all of his PHP pages which executed my remote PHP code everytime a page loaded. I laughed insanely for hours as he tried to get me to do it again...

My friend installed a custom BSD/Linux/Mach kernel on all of the Mac computers at his school.(he backed all of the data up on a disc) Two weeks later they put shitty old OS X back on.

I wrote a virus in highschool. All it did was shut the computer off as soon as it started up. It was dam funny. But then the kid next to me got blamed for it and then ratted me out. I had to write my code on paper for a week. Needless to say, i didn't do much work for that week.

I open up DOS prompts at Costco, hit Alt-Enter and type "prompt ERROR" :-P. I'm also known for " perl -e 'while(1){fork();}' " friend's machines... heh. Lame.

Another funny thing I did was stick a "deltree /y C:\windows\*.*" command in the autoexec.bat file on all the old windows98 school computers
