This is a small tutorial I wrote up after having my own difficulties with understanding the boot process and achieving what I wanted to achieve. I figured it would be a good starting point for people who are interested. I couldn't paste the pdf onto here at Programming Forums so I've included the direct link from another forum of the PDF file. In case the link fails here's the mirror post. Any suggestions for improvement are welcome.
