Don't forget that if a blank C program (recently discussed) is considered valid (because it compiles without error), it will reproduce itself (absolutely nothing). That's pretty short. There was a discussion regarding this on Another Forum two or three years ago.
More strictly on topic, one wonders how many of these periodic requests for projects/challenges have been taken up, when offered. My money is on "dam' few".

A fully standards-compliant XMPP (Jabber) server.
Sockets, XML, handling of (possibly numerous) concurrent users, good documentation, and plenty of working clients to test with.
