King of Portal

I concur with DaWei, calendars, bdays, etc. are all info that doesn't really do much of anything. I'll go so far as to suggest that the Introductions forum be removed. It's sorta like I get it you're here, but aren't we all? Perhaps a little aside that states the new people that have joined is more appropriate, that way people can freely look at their profiles and whatnot, assuming you want profiles on the new portal. I figure the more programming exclusive the site is, the better.

When I come into PFO, I go straight to the New Posts link... I don't even bother looking at anything else. Although, on occasion I look at who is currently logged in.

I wouldn't put them side to side like this, it looks rather stuffed together, IMO. I would put the Newest Tutorials box beneath the Newest Posts box.
Oh, by the way - I quite liked the Who's online box . |

I disagree with Poly. Newest posts are what the majority of the members are looking for. Newest tutorials should have the same emphasis as Navigation, Sponsors, etc., in other words a secondary role. The tutorial section has been cleaned up and is very nice compared to what it was; it is not 50% of the value of this particular site, and won't be for some time. I would like to see the control panel link in the site navigation area. That particular section is not adaptive to manipulation of the window.

The calender's not such a bad thing to have. I refer to it more often than I probably should (so much going on I have no idea what day it is most of the time...). I like the buddy list and who's online because I tend to keep an eye out for posts from those on my buddy list, since they're usually quite informative.

Yeppo, like others have said. The ONLY link I use is New Posts... (and occasionally the search)

That's sort of what I meant - place most emphasis on the newest posts, put things like newest tutorials somewhere else, where you suggested it or below a big newest posts block. Like you say, a secondary role. The way the tutorial box is located right now takes too much space of the primary items on the page (in my opinion).

The problem with putting things at the bottom is that there's no hint that they are there if you don't scroll. If there's a separate section to the side (even if it's blank at your particular scoll position), you at least know it's there for the finding.

True, but when placing it at the side it should be at least a little bit smaller, I guess.

The new design is cute. And I say that in a very manly way. I like them.
