Thats less than I took in a single semister (12 weeks) But perhaps that had something to do with the fact that I was doing a Math Science course.

For the CS major I have to take:
Calc 1 - 3
Differential Equations
Linear Algebra
Stats 1
And a couple other electives, plus the one's I need to take to get the math minor as well, at Umass Amherst.

Well if you are at school, I suggest looking at the cs main page and look at the requirements and also talk to an advisor.
I think blood was looking for interesting comparisons, not guidance.

I find this thread a little amusing.

When I studied at Uni, the question wasn't how much maths was needed in a computer science course. The question that was asked was "is there any point in doing that single elective computing unit within a mathematics subject?"

And I learnt linear algebra (which is technically a branch of discrete mathematics) and basic probability theory in junior high school, and calculus in senior high school. Some other elements of discrete mathematics (set theory, number theory, proofs, etc) and statistics were included in senior high school mathematics, and expanded on in 1st year maths subjects at uni.

I took the first two as refreshers, but the rest were required. I'm probably missing a few from the list.

College Algebra
Trigonometry
Discrete Mathematics
Probability and Statistics
Linear Algebra
Differential Equations
Combinatorics
Numerical Analysis
Calculus I through IV

Yeah I realized that, that's why I changed it like 5 seconds after I posted it.
