I use Ollydbg. It's free and only a quick google search away.

that will be a problem Dia_Byte, i have the latest version, and at first it did work with XP, but after a reboot it made my system hang

i've tried it on 3 different systems, one with SP2, and 2 of them with SP1, all have the same problems...

try looking in the usenet groups for a link to download it.

Come on Dia Byte,
go to google and spend one hour searching and i am sure you will find it!
I am using version 4.05 and it didn't work on my win XP but i got the patch for it.
SoftIce isn't free so you will need a serial number (i am sure its not a problem ).

If you do not need a kernel level debugger such as SoftICE, then you are better off using something like OllyDbg, it's a very very very good and free usermode debugger. When you need to monitor something in your system in real time, then you should use something like SoftICE, since it is again kernel level and 'hangs' your system temporarily while you poke around the information. SoftICE is a very very powerful tool and you might not need it when you think you do. Most Windows spelunkers use it since it offers a lot of in depth info on your system (many believe that with the IDA Pro disassembler and SoftICE you can find anything out about your system.)

However, there are in fact other kernel debuggers available, SoftICE is just the most renowned. One debugger that I have not tested but is probably very very very very good as a free kernel level 'bugger is LiveKd created by Mark Russinovich (and probably David Solomon as well), the programmers of sysinternals.com who have made some of the most absolutely fabulous books over Microsoft Windows. I'd give their debugger a shot, after all, they have source code access to Windows.
