Java won't die for a long time.

Every professor at my university hates Java. To me, this proves that Java will be around for a while. (My university does everything wrong... seriously.)

Well, I can sort of understand their attitude. Java's nice because it's cross-platform, has a standard huge library and many third-party open source libraries. These are all practical considerations, however, and in my experience University CompSci professors tend to be interested more in the theoretical. The syntax of the Java language itself is far removed from elegant, and the language has a very limited feature set. From an academic point of view, Java's not a particularly good example of a programming language.
