I've been learning pascal in school for the last few weeks. It's a really good language for beginning programming or even just to get used to the basic programming techniques. I wouldn't recommend that you use TPW 7 for DOS, as it really isn't that good. Try using TPW 1.5 for Windows. Get it here.
Some good sites I've found for 1.5 are: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pascal_...mming_language http://dmoz.org/Computers/Programming/Languages/Pascal/ http://library.thinkquest.org/15375/b06.htm There are many more useful ones, just make sure they are for TPW 1.5 and not any other version. Some things may work in 1.5 that don't work in 7, and vice-versa. |

I'd like to recommend python over pascal since pascal is relatively dead outside teaching and I percieve python as easy and doesn't-get-into-your-way, but I don't have enough experience with pascal to dare.
I bet there is someone here who knows both or has experienced python as a teaching language - can someone give a funded comment on this ? |

How do you recommend python over pascal and turn right around in the same sentence and state, essentially, that you have no business making a recommendation?
The essential theme of this thread is the teaching of good programming fundamentals, and how well pascal fits in. So the fact that it is still used as a teaching language, if in fact that's the only place is used, would seem to support grumpy's post, would it not?
