i recommend www.w3schools.com as it covers everything that has to do with web programming. Including, php, javascript, xhtml, and much more.

I 2nd that, I personally would never even consider purchasing a book about HTML, as you can find very good tutorials/reference material, as well as code generators for all things web programming on the internet.

Not if you use HTML correctly. In fact, XHTML 1.0 Transitional just takes HTML 4.0 Strict and deprecates all the stuff no one should be using anyway. However, there is quite a large difference between what people perceive HTML and XHTML to be.

S'true. Maybe I should actually write something about the differences and why I believe one is better than the other - then I'll have an excuse to complain loudly when someone uses HTML.

C is not exactly the future and there are still people buying books about it.

yeah, C is the past...but you better believe that you'll be maintaining old code somewhere in your career.

That's slightly different: C is still used in a lot of projects, especially ones that work closely with hardware. Every current major operating system kernel is written in C. HTML is now definitely a thing of the past - a relic. Yes, I agree that people should learn it, but after they've learnt XHTML.
