Me and my team of designers are working on the concept for a new game. The player obtains new chassis and attatches any of a various assortment fo equipment to it. Oh, yeah, and the chassis are giant robots. We have some rendering and artist types working on the graphics, others on concept, but what I really would like is for some help coding. Suggestions on the language, limitations, target system requirements, etc. are appreciated. Regardless of skill level, your help would be appreciated at www.summachina.clicdev.com where you can get more details, and don't forget to register.

Right now most work is on concept art, but morale is sinking and if I could get a demo together it would be smooth.

I take it that your making a MechWarrior "like" game?

I would suggest c++ and maybe some assembly. That's what most games are made in.

Yeah, suppose you can roughly call it a Mechwarrior type game, but it is kind of the opposite in a sense. MW is based off of realism (compared to other mech games), but this is more anime infuluenced, hence it will be a gazillion times faster and anime-ish. It is more like Armored Core than Mechwarrrior; just check out some of the sites in my sig...if you dare!JJ

Anyways, thanks for the suggestion. Some say that JAVA is like C++ in many ways, so would that work, or is something not proper with it to work the same.

Could someone also give me some modest system requirements to work with, and also perhaps how far they could be pushed w/out any slowdown/lag would help.

As far as I'm aware, the language is similar, but the execution is drastically different. C++ is compiled, whereas (as far as I know) Java is interpreted. If you wanted anything with 3d accelerated graphics, with any kind of umph to it, Java probably isn't the best way to go. I've used PHP IDEs written in Java, and they've ran fairly slowly - imagine what a complex game will run like.
