StarCraft 2?

http://www.blizzard.com/jobopp/desig...-balance.shtml

They're asking for someone with extensive experience in Starcraft/ warcraft and game balancing. And Blizzard has also been asking for suggestions for a hypothetical Starcraft Sequal.

There have been a lot of rumors flying around of a sequal, though unconfirmed as of yet by Blizzard. If they turn out to be true, I will personally count the days to the release and set aside 60 dollars exclusivly for a preorder copy of the game.

A lot of fans are worried that a new sequal will go the same direction that Warcraft did, with a more micro-managment based game and more graphics than gameplay and storyline. Though I don't think they would screw around too much with a prefected system. Though another point they had is that there may be up to 2 more races such as the Xel'Naga and the new "Hybrid" races, and that this may throw the balance completely off and overwhelm the player with too much change.

I am surprised that Blizzard has not already made another Starcraft RTS game (Ghost has been declared to be officially in development hell) considering that the first two have been succesful enough to make a professional gaming league and even televised games in South Korea.

What do you think? And do you think that a Starcraft sequal is a good idea?

As much I love starcraft, I don't play it anymore. I played it a lot when i was a littl eyounger, and it is one a the few ligetimatly bought games that I actually paid for ( and glad and happy to have done so). But, if they were to come out whit a new starcraft, long as it wasn't a warcraft, I think I would buy it too. In order for it to be successful, they need to keep it as simplistic as possible, just like the old one, we don't need another age of empires, or "empire this". But at the same time, it needs to have new features, and graphics (but not too much). I'll spend my money on beer if they make it cartoony like warcraft. The "realism" (in the animation) that starcraft had, was what made me love it. And as you said, gameplay and storyline are going to be a huge part of it's success or downfall.

Starcraft was the only game I ever got obsessed with. I used to love the toy maps where you'd do things like create a barrier of turrets to block the oncoming enemies.

I'd love to see a sequel.

(AOE was a good game but its not better than broodwar... You've lost your minds.)
I hate that they put such an enormous amount of effort into warcraft and just left starcraft alone when sc was a better game...

once sc2 comes out (hopefully) i will be the prince of all protoss once again!

I think that the old 2d engine should stay. I think that 3d would ruin the game. They should concentrate on improving the resolution, making higher quality sprites and of course the new units, buildings and races that are to be expected. I just hope that they don't try and turn it into W3
