R.I.P. Java?
I hear a lot of word saying that Java is in fact going to die soon or people refer to Java as the "Dead" platform. Many people believe Java is a very necessary language and there is no place for it. I want to get you guys opinion about this issue. I feel Java is a good language but I am just one person. What you do guys think?

I don't think it is going anywhere. It's probably getting a bit beat down by .NET but still it's the easiest and best cross platform language I know of. Where did you here this rumor?

When a language has such momentum behind it, it tends to keep going. Even if Java has reached it's peak, it will be a long time before it loses its current popularity. The computer industry tends to be slow to change on the language front. Further, there isn't currently any other language that fills the same niche as Java. It's a cross-platform, fast bytecode-based language. It's closest competitor is the .NET family, but despite the efforts of Mono, .NET does not yet have the same level of cross-platform functionality as Java, nor has C# managed to quite match Java's speed. And because of Java's headstart, the libraries available for Java tend to be very stable and mature in comparison to other, newer, languages. Java's not dead. At worst it's just middle-aged ![]() |

Its definatly not dead, i could go into all the reasons but they are widely known.
Java and .net will be around for years to come, i have no doubt about that.

I'm on the .NET side of the fence myself... but Java's best feature is it being cross-platform.

I dont even think its fully reached its peek yet. Wait until we have java enabled toasters, chairs and door knobs, then after that you can start saying its getting a little aged.

Thinking about it, i use both. If i feel like c# i use that, if i feel like java i use that. I know both so in a way its a non issue. So if one were to die out for some random reason i would probably not complain too much.
