Riiight.

The thing about ISPs these days is that almost all of them use standard protocols. Typically a home user will use PPPoE or DHCP to grab an address and such, but sometimes has a static IP. And imagine that, support for those are widely available on almost any OS. Such as my router, which happens to run Linux. By "doesn't support" they mean "you can't call tech support because the place we outsourced to doesn't know how to answer your questions". What's that? They don't have linux software on the CD? You don't need it, and you don't need it on Windows either.

Please let us know what protocol they want you to connect with and we will point you in the right direction.

This probably just means that if, for some reason, Linux has problems connecting to their service, they will offer no support to get it up and running. That doesn't mean that a Linux OS can't get online - on the contrary, its extremely likely that it can.

Generally speaking, Internet access nowadays takes place over open protocols. Your ISPs router won't care what operating system is connecting to it, so long as it makes the right noises. The only difficulty you might have is with the hardware. I rather doubt you'd have any problem with the connection itself.

What hardware do you use to connect your computer to the net?
