Yep, C++ has grown. But what I like about it is that you can use it as C. I think you will always be able to do that.

It would probably help you NOT to learn 10(more or less?) year old code as it is deprecated most likely, as mentioned by others. Get a nice tutorial online and scrap all those old books/code that your mom had back in the day, or just put them back in the closet.
