You need to get out more. Furthermore, assembly language is not an IT, assembly language is a THEY.

Assembly isn't a language?! WTF have I been programming in for the last 22 years? Duh! Assembly is of course a language actually one of the first we could more easily understand. Someone who says it isn't is just plain dense.

I was generalizing when I used "it".

Yeah, how could peaceofpi's friend possibly not know that? What was he thinking?

I once read that for a supposed language to be a classified as a language it has to be at the computational equivalent of a Turing machine.

Assembly is the ultimate programming language. If you want to get to the bottom of it all, go with assembly if not then learn all the HLL's. My analogy is race a Hemispherical combustion chamber engine against the rest. See who wins. More work less gratitude. Thanks, I just received a hair transplant, so don't believe me ask "Dawei!". He is an even bigger asshole than I, but he knows his stuff.

Most programming languages are turing complete, if that's what you're saying.

(11:55:53 PM) erkified: http://www.nerdtests.com/ft_nq.php?im
(11:58:45 PM) Cheez Waffle1214: Which of the following is not a real programming language?
BASIC
C++
PASCAL
Assembly
FORTRAN
COBOL
(11:58:47 PM) Cheez Waffle1214: ...wait
(11:58:57 PM) erkified: come on
(11:58:58 PM) erkified: you know this
(11:59:12 PM) erkified: its the odd one out..
(11:59:29 PM) Cheez Waffle1214: uh
(11:59:39 PM) Cheez Waffle1214: I remember pascal not being in caps
(11:59:41 PM) erkified: assembly
(11:59:48 PM) Cheez Waffle1214: it's a low level programming language
(11:59:49 PM) erkified: its not a programming language
(11:59:52 PM) erkified: fu
(12:00:17 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: you write the code and it compiles to an executable, stfu
(12:00:18 AM) erkified: but assembly is based on 0 and 1
(12:00:33 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: which makes it low level
(12:00:41 AM) erkified: hold on
(12:01:19 AM) erkified:
limewound: assembly
limewound: that's machine language
(12:01:27 AM) erkified:
limewound: which the compiler compiles so the computer can understand
(12:01:59 AM) erkified: theyre all higher than assembly anyway
(12:01:59 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: machine language: A program in the form of a series of binary codes that are understandable by the CPU. 99.9% of the time programmers write their code in another "higher level" programming language which in turn translates their code into machine language.
(12:02:09 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: "another" programming language
(12:02:10 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: eat it
(12:02:17 AM) erkified: okay fine
(12:02:19 AM) erkified: basic
(12:02:24 AM) erkified: thats higher than assembly
(12:02:26 AM) erkified: c++
(12:02:28 AM) erkified: higher
(12:02:30 AM) erkified: pascal
(12:02:31 AM) erkified: higher
(12:02:34 AM) erkified: fortan
(12:02:39 AM) erkified: higher
(12:02:40 AM) erkified: cobol
(12:02:42 AM) erkified: higher
(12:02:47 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: I understand that
(12:02:54 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: assembly is the lowest
(12:02:58 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: it's still a programming language
(12:03:02 AM) erkified: dude
(12:03:04 AM) erkified: F U.
(12:03:07 AM) erkified: PICK IT AND STFU
(12:03:16 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: =.=
(12:03:20 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: wow
(12:03:29 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: I should get a high nerd score just for defending ASM
(12:04:55 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: 54% scored higher (more nerdy), and 46% scored lower (less nerdy). What does this mean? Your nerdiness is:
Somewhat nerdy. I mean face it, you are nerdier than about half the test takers.

Later...

(12:15:15 AM) erkified: its not considered a programming language
(12:15:20 AM) erkified: according to my teacher
(12:15:25 AM) erkified: same with html
(12:15:29 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: wasnt your teacher an idiot
(12:15:30 AM) erkified: since its just codes
(12:15:33 AM) erkified: yeah
(12:15:37 AM) erkified: a racist *****
(12:15:38 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: html is a scripting language I think
(12:16:31 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: according to the definition of "programming language" my little asm buddy wins
(12:17:40 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: A programming language that is very similar to machine language, but uses symbols instead of binary numbers.
(12:17:42 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: lolpwned
(12:18:07 AM) erkified: I SAID THAT IN THE BEGINNING
(12:18:10 AM) erkified: IT USES 1 AND 0
(12:18:12 AM) erkified: NOOB
(12:18:33 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: YOU ALSO SAID IT WASNT A PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE
(12:18:46 AM) erkified: CAUSE IT ISNT
(12:19:00 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: THEN WHY DOES EVERYONE SAY IT IS
(12:19:03 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: WHEN IT LOGICALLY IS
(12:19:05 AM) erkified: IT ISNT
(12:19:06 AM) Cheez Waffle1214: LOL D:<

Well, I advise you to tell your friend he's wrong. No special parts, just flat out, vanilla, plain wrong. He also needs to learn to back up what he says a little better; he might as well have said a bicycle isn't a method of transport because it doesn't have a motor engine.
