I have tested about 30 Linux distributions, and was looking to try out BSD at some point to compare to them. I will be looking forward to your finding DaWei.

PS, if you want more information on the different BSD's or Linux Distributions check out http://distrowatch.com/

Just curious, but how did you fall into writing a story for a magazine?

I love words. I have a weird sense of humor. I had written articles for technical magazines and papers for ANSI committees. Seemed like fun to write this weird Asimovian kind of mystery. It was fun. In retrospect, it was a shitty job, though. To be fair to myself, a LOT of the stories in the magazine-to-remain-unnamed are shitty. When I was young they were good. Or maybe I didn't know the difference. I became an accomplished amateur photographer and even made a few bucks at it simply because I loved it. I think I could do the same with writing. I was always so tied up in my career that I didn't have time to futz around for pennies. Maybe I'll give it another shot now that I'm not chasing the almighty buck. I've already tried my hand at painting and digital painting (I'm horrible), crochet and tatting, woodworking, and metal working. I'm even planning on trying procrastination, but I keep putting it off.

I was talking more along the lines of how did you get a magazine to pay you to put a story in their publication?

Submit it. If they want it they pay you, if they don't you get rejected. Anyone who can't stand rejection shouldn't try to be published. Write the publication of your choice and request their author guidelines and payment rates. Get a manual of style. Use a grammar checker and spell checker. Acceptable styles vary, depending upon the type of publication. Passive voice and a small amount of jargon are more acceptable in technical writing than in mass-market writing. Check it out and get a feel for it. Even if you wind up feeding it to your dog, it is probably a worthwhile endeavor if you have any tendency to try it.
